Westcountry Motorsport Rescue
Is sponsored by West Country Private Ambulance Service
Westcountry Motorsport Rescue is a locally based voluntary crewed unit, available for hire to any two or four wheel motorsport event requiring a trained extrication team.
West Country Rescue was set up several years ago by Mr Gerry Pickard at the request of local motor clubs, disappointed at the lack of rescue cover in the South West area. He started with a van and a load of equipment in the back. In the ensuing years it has progressed to an ex county Transit Ambulance converted by the team to meet their best needs and those of the Motor Sports Association (MSA).
The unit carries a small motor driven hydraulic pump and a 12ton shear/spreader, a separate hand operated pump system is carried as back-up, just in case. They also carry portable saws and a helmet cutter as well as a selection of hand tools. They carry fire fighting equipment, and selected medical equipment. They have the facility for carrying two stretcher patients if required.
Mr Pickard still runs the administrative side of the unit and through his business ensures that the vehicle is serviced and insured at all times.
